2. Information We Collect
2.1. Spotify Authentication Data:
- When you log in to Rekkid Hunter, you authenticate using your Spotify account. We collect your Spotify username and access token to provide app functionality, such as matching your currently playing track, liked songs, and playlists against Discogs.
2.2. Email Address:
- Before you reach the Spotify login step, we ask for your email address on our landing page. You provide this by explicitly ticking a consent checkbox confirming you agree to be contacted by Rekkid Hunter for marketing purposes. We do not collect or use your email address for marketing unless you have given this consent.
2.3. Location Information:
- We may collect your general location (e.g. country or region), inferred from your Spotify account data or IP address, for analytics purposes.
2.4. Analytics Data:
- We collect data about how you interact with the app and website, such as feature usage, page views, session behaviour, and geographic trends, via the analytics tools listed in Section 4.
3. How We Use Your Information
- App functionality: To display your Spotify streaming data and determine whether tracks were pressed on vinyl, using Discogs.
- Sign-up and onboarding: To move you from the email sign-up step to the Spotify login step.
- Marketing communications: To send you updates about Rekkid Hunter, but only where you have given consent by ticking the consent checkbox at sign-up.
- Analytics: To understand how users interact with the app and website, and to improve it.
- Legal and security: To detect fraud, secure our systems, and comply with legal obligations.
4. Third Parties We Share Information With
We use the following third-party tools and service providers ("operators" under POPIA) to run Rekkid Hunter. Each processes personal information on our behalf, under its own privacy terms:
4.1. Spotify API:
- We use Spotify's API to retrieve your streaming data, liked songs, and playlists, per Spotify's own terms and privacy policy.
4.2. Discogs API:
- We query Discogs to determine whether a track is available on vinyl. No personal information is shared with Discogs — only the track/artist data needed to search their catalogue.
4.3. Pipedrive (CRM):
- Email addresses collected with your consent are stored in Pipedrive, our customer relationship management (CRM) platform, so we can manage sign-ups and send marketing communications to those who consented. Pipedrive processes this data under its own privacy and security terms.
4.4. Google Analytics and Amplitude:
- We use Google Analytics and Amplitude to understand aggregated app and website usage, such as feature adoption and user flow. These tools may process device, usage, and approximate location data.
4.5. Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Advertising:

We use Meta Pixel to track interactions with our website, including page visits and on-site actions, to measure advertising effectiveness. Data collected
is shared with Meta Platforms, Inc. and is subject to Meta's Data Policy. You can manage this through our cookie settings or your Facebook ad preferences.
4.7. No Commercial Affiliation:
- Rekkid Hunter has no commercial affiliation with Spotify or Discogs. We share only what is functionally necessary with each.
5. Cross-Border Data Transfers
Some of the third parties listed in Section 4 (including Pipedrive, Google, Amplitude, and Microsoft) store or process personal information on servers located outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives a level of protection consistent with POPIA, including relying on these providers' own contractual and security safeguards.
6. Data Storage, Security, and Retention
- Storage: Your email address, Spotify username, and location data are stored securely using our service providers listed above.
- Security: We use industry-standard security measures (such as encryption in transit and access controls) to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure.
- Retention: We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to marketing communications, or until you withdraw consent, whichever comes first. Spotify authentication tokens are retained for as long as your account remains active, and deleted upon account deletion or revocation of Spotify access. We retain information beyond this only where required by law.
7. Your Rights
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- Be informed of what personal information we hold about you and why.
- Access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information.
- Object to the processing of your personal information, including for direct marketing.
- Withdraw your consent to marketing communications at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link included in each email.
- Revoke Rekkid Hunter's access to your Spotify account at any time via your Spotify account settings.
- Lodge a complaint with South Africa's Information Regulator if you believe your information has been mishandled.
